This mission is a review of what has been taught so far. But the lessons keep right on coming, as Olaf has a nasty surprise in store...

[edit] Intel

Tank Ops is the sixth mission of Advance Wars' Field Training Mode. You start with nine Units compared to Olaf's eight, but Olaf has some extra firepower: a Medium Tank on the other end of the battlefield and within range of his own HQ.

This mission reviews everything that has been explained this far while, at the same time, investigating why a company that was doing recon in the Coral Lagoon area was lost.

[edit] Strategy

This tutorial mission is a test of sorts as a showcase of what has been taught so far. Don't worry about the Medium Tank for now because it isn't going to move unless something enters its movement range. To start, your attention needs to be the enemy forces that are front and center.

Attack the Tank that is within range of your own, and bring a Mech onto an APC to get it close for support, but don't drop the Mech in the Artillery Unit's range! The four Infantry Units should move South to stop Blue Moon from taking the Neutral Cities and eventually claiming them for yourself, crossing the river once done.

On Day 2, KO the opposing Tank and Artillery with your own attacking Tank and Artillery, as well as the Mech. The second Tank will be on the scene shortly, so use your APC to block its route (the neutral city in front of the bridge is the best option). Begin taking the Cities to the south while your Infantry and Mech get closer to combat.

The second tank should be toast on the next day with an Artillery/Tank/Mech combo. The remaining forces should concentrate on the two Infantry. Those enemy Infantry shouldn't be around after Day 4 if things went according to plan. By now those Mechs should be closing in. Take them out when they get close (they can't attack an Artillery without spending a turn within its range), then start to move units outside the Medium Tank's range.

When your Units are in position, move the Tank one space below the North bridge to block it then use the Infantry to begin capturing the enemy HQ. Finish the Capture to win.

Or, if you want to show Olaf up, block the Tank as stated and roll your Artillery unit right behind it. Use your Artillery to strike the Medium Tank, but replace the damaged (or destroyed) Tank with Infantry or an APC. This takes an extra day, but it feels awesome to pull it off!

An A Rank is the highest rank that can be attained during Field Training missions.
